Description — This photograph was taken in Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota, near the Ash River Visitor Center. The photo was taken in late September 2006.

Commentary — By late September much of the fall foliage was past its prime in northern Minnesota, but these young trees still had their color.
On a map of Rainy Lake to the west I saw a dotted line going across the lake from the American to the Canadian side. When I asked about this I was told that in the winter this route was plowed off and became a state highway.
